The habanero piment is distinguished from the other varieties of the species for the fruit, generally in the form of lantern, which can be presented with the elongated tip in conical or indent form.
The dimensions range from 2 to 8 cm long.
The color is green when immature, while at ripening it can be white, yellow, orange, red, violet or brown.
There are many varieties, including the “Chocolate”, the “Orange” and the “Red Savina”.
The habanero piment is mainly cultivated in Mexico, however there are commercial crops also in Belize, Costa Rica, Texas and California.
In recent years there are important and commercial crops also in Italy.
